About Circle H Ranch

For many years, Circle H Ranch served as a traditional, private ranch reserved for the exclusive enjoyment of the Hegg family and their guests. In 1992, we expanded the use from a family ranch to a limited private retreat to accommodate hunters and guests. Today, we welcome all visitors -- from business retreats to family reunions and hunting groups.

Located in the heart of the nation's pheasant territory, Circle H Ranch spans over thousands of acres of prime hunting ground near Gregory, South Dakota. Circle H Ranch has three comfortable, modern guest lodges that together can accommodate up to thirty overnight guests.

Circle H Ranch is a hunter's dream centered around habitat including tree belts, natural grasslands, sloughs, draws and crop land. The terrain provides groups of all sizes with challenging and unparalleled hunting, not only for pheasants, but for turkey and deer as well. Our guides accompany each group in the field with our well-trained dogs.

The pheasant hunting season begins at Circle H Ranch in September and ends the last week in March. Although fall is the most popular time, the late season provides some excellent hunting and challenging shooting. Click on any of the categories below for more information.

Circle H Ranch consists of three modern lodges with satellite television, fax machine, computer access, wireless internet service and Verizon cell phone coverage. These lodges can accommodate up to thirty overnight guests. Click on any of our three lodges listed below for more history and details.

Main Lodge

The newest building at Circle H Ranch, the Main Lodge was built in 2011 and offers plenty of meeting space, dining facilities and sleeping accommodations.

Sorensen Cottage

Built in 1997, the Sorensen Cottage has five guest bedrooms, three full baths, kitchenette, a spacious gathering room and a library.

Hegg Guest House

In 1993, we moved a nearby pioneer Methodist church to the ranch and converted it into a modern, attractive guest house with a 20-foot gabled ceiling and wood burning fireplace.

Sioux Falls Regional AirportGregory is accessible from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, which services four major airlines. Local aircraft charter services from Sioux Falls provide an easy 45-minute flight to Gregory. Gregory AirportThe Gregory Airport has a 3,800 x 100 foot lighted, hard-surfaced runway with a GPS approach. Winner AirportThe Winner Airport (25 miles west) has a 4,500 foot lighted, hard-surfaced runway with a VOR approach. Transportation from AirportsCircle H Ranch provides direct transportation from the two local airports or can assist you with making plans to arrive via the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. Rental cars are available in Sioux Falls from major rental companies or there are vans to rent from local sources. Transportation is also available through a van service with prior reservations. Driving from Sioux FallsTwo routes link Sioux Falls to Gregory, which is 150 miles and 2 1/2 to 3 hours estimated driving time. Pheasant hunting at its finest is what you find at Circle H Ranch located in the heart of pheasant country near Gregory, South Dakota. Thousands of acres of South Dakota's premier pheasant terrain are reserved for the exclusive use and enjoyment of our guests.Throughout the years, numerous tree belts and pheasant food plots have been added to the Ranch. This provides excellent nesting areas and ensures a plentiful and stable pheasant population each year. The terrain is conducive to providing parties of all sizes with challenging and unparalleled pheasant hunting. Transportation in the field is by specially designed and converted all-wheel drive buses. In early season, warm weather hunters sometimes prefer our open-air trailers built specifically for this purpose. In most cases, your group will be able to hunt separately with a friendly, knowledgeable guide and dogs assigned exclusively to your group. Your birds will be processed, frozen and packaged for your return trip home.

Turkey Hunting
Circle H Ranch has some of the best Merriam turkey hunting one can find in the United States. Our food sources offer optimal feeding grounds and the terrain provides natural roosting areas for a tremendous turkey population. The Merriam wild turkey is the largest upland game bird in South Dakota. Throughout the Midwest, adult Merriam toms taken in the fall season average 18 pounds and adult hens average 10 pounds.When turkey hunting at the Circle H Ranch, you will experience great shooting opportunities, unparalleled scenery, and lasting memories of an exciting turkey hunt. Merriam turkeys are extremely intelligent and hunting these birds can be one of the most challenging hunts you experience.

Deer Hunting
Whitetail and mule deer are abundant at Circle H Ranch. It's not uncommon to see these elegant creatures running through the property on a regular basis. Over the past few years, most of the whitetails in the Gregory area score around 120 to 140 points on the Boone & Crockett scale, but much larger bucks are harvested every year. As a matter of fact, one of the largest whitetails shot in South Dakota was at Circle H Ranch, with a Boone & Crockett score of 195 points!The landscape of Circle H Ranch provides many prime opportunities to hunt your trophy whitetail or mule deer buck.

Dogs & Kennels
Circle H Ranch has eager and well-trained dogs to provide hunting enjoyment and to assist in locating and retrieving your game. Your field guide will work the dogs. You are welcome to bring your own dogs, provided they are reasonably trained and kept in our clean, comfortable, private kennels.Circle H Ranch has two dog kennel buildings with electric radiant heat in the floors. Each dog has their own individual sleeping area and kennel run. Guest dogs stay in our guest kennel located just a few steps from the lodge. It provides a quiet, comfortable place for your dog to rest after a hard day in the field.

Pheasant - Full Service Hunt Package$690 per hunter dayFee includes lodging, food, beverages, guide, dogs, field transportation and bird processing. One round of sporting clays is included in your fee with a two plus day hunt. (Does not include license or shells which may be purchased at the ranch.)Pheasant - Limited Service Hunt$350 per hunter dayFee includes lodging and land usage. The building, known as the Hegg Guest House, now includes a well-furnished kitchen and cozy dining area around a wood burning fireplace. It has five guest bedrooms, three full baths and sleeps nine people (double occupancy).

In addition, this cottage features a room known as "the library," which is a great place for guests to read their favorite book. The five-person Finnish sauna is also a popular amenity of the cottage, especially for those wanting to take off the chill after a late season hunt.In 2011, this building (known previously as "the guest house") was named Sorensen Cottage in memory of long-time guest, friend, fighter pilot and true American Patriot, retired Col. Roger Sorensen, USAF, who was a recipient of the Silver Star for his service to our country.

Since 1993, we have offered a challenging 13-station NRA sporting clays course at the ranch that provides excellent opportunity for quality shooting. We have exceptional shooters on staff who will give small-group or one-on-one instruction, available for an additional fee upon advance request. We also have a 2-person flurry that will improve your instinctive wing shooting. This is a fully automated machine that will throw a target at different elevations over a 170-degree field every one and a half seconds.

We'll provide everything you need to fish at one of the fourteen stock dams located on the ranch, many of them known for their excellent fishing.Many guests have enjoyed catching Master Angler sized largemouth bass in addition to perch, northern pike, catfish, and a variety of pan fish. Fishing excursions on the Missouri River are also available. These guided fishing trips include a boat and tackle for 3-4 people per boat. Fishing licenses are required and additional fees apply (subject to availability).

In addition to fishing, horseback riding and shooting sports, Circle H Ranch offers a variety of other activities in the nation's most magnificent prairie landscapes. A fire pit is located near the lodge for evening campfires and get-togethers. Our horseshoe pit has also welcomed many friendly competitions among friends over the years. Whatever you choose to do, you're certain to create lasting memories and build camaraderie as with nothing else you've ever done. Please contact us if any of the activities below interest you. We invite you to bring your horse along with you to Circle H Ranch to experience the landscape and views up close. Take a ride and see the tree belts and food plots we have added to the property to ensure great wildlife opportunities for our guests.Call us for details if you are interested in bringing your horses to the ranch. Please note that horses are not allowed during some prime hunting weeks for your safety. A horseback trail ride is also a possibility along the majestic Missouri River. This ride will take you over the same ground Lewis & Clark traveled over two hundred years ago (1804-1806). Guided by experienced wranglers, this ride lasts four to six hours and includes a trail lunch. Advanced reservations and a minimum of three people are required. Additional fees apply (subject to availability).
